Shooting Your Shot With Maria Tassi
In the competitive world of entrepreneurship, opportunities don't always come knocking; sometimes, you have to create them yourself. In ‘Build Your Digital Community’ Episode 64, our host Kristina, along with her business partner Maria Tassi, break down the power of shooting your shot, taking big steps, and asking questions along the way. From pitching your ideas to potential investors, pursuing strategic partnerships, or showcasing your expertise on influential platforms, shooting your shot can be the key to unlocking new doors in your business.
If You Don’t Ask, The Answer Is No
Feeling nervous about reaching out to people who we feel are lightyears ahead of us is completely normal. We can get caught up in our heads, telling stories to ourselves and thinking that people will never say yes to us. However, we’ve learned that, more often than not, people do say yes. People love the opportunity to talk about their experiences, share value and help others.
The only way you are going to learn is to ask. When you don’t ask, you take away the opportunity from that person who may want to uplift and help you. Remember, it is often a meaningful, feel-good experience for both parties.
Make It Easy For Someone To Say Yes
Start your conversation with a clear ask and deliverable. Frame your question or pitch by leading with what the other person will get out of it.
For example, if you ask someone to be a guest on your podcast, offer to make a few Reels of the person’s strongest talking points during the conversation. This adds value to them and may showcase your talents or services to this person. It can also help to solidify a positive relationship or reputation that people will want to nurture and return. This could come in the form of introducing you to influence people or giving sound advice.
Pay It Forward
Everyone in business has to start from square one. No one woke up and was as successful as they are. In fact, there are people in your communities right now who are starting new businesses and could use your guidance. How can you lift up the people who are dreaming of your door? It’s not always about an immediate ROI or mutual benefit. When you see the chance to help pay it forward, take the opportunity to help others create their own legacy.
7 Things To Remember When Shooting Your Shot
Don’t get too fixated on big names or certain people’s status - there are so many different people you can learn from. Be open and reach out to a variety of people you feel like you may align with to make things happen.
If people say no, that is totally okay. Don’t worry and just keep trying!
Verbalize a clear ask for your existing network.
Never feel like your experience or knowledge is superior to others. You can always uncover value or learnings in someone. You are not above anybody.
You don’t have to give everyone your time. However, you should try to discern where strategic partnerships may lie.
Not all advice is good advice. Just because something worked for someone doesn’t mean it will work for you. Trust your gut and recognize what’s right for you.
Surround yourself with like-minded people, mentors and peers to help you problem solve and find support in community.
By taking bold action, asking for what you want to know, and embracing opportunities in your community, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities. Remember, success often lies just beyond the fear of failure. We encourage you to embrace your inner courage, trust your instincts and abilities, and shoot your shot!
